Attendance Matters

Good attendance is 96% or above. Attendance below 90% is classified as Persistent Absence.

At King Henry VIII 3-19 School, we believe that attending school every day is essential for both academic success and personal development. Regular attendance enables pupils to achieve highly, make better progress, build stronger friendships, and enjoy higher levels of wellbeing.

Excellent attendance reflects many of our school values. It demonstrates Ambition to succeed in learning, Determination when challenges arise, and Participation in the rich opportunities that school life offers.

Reporting an Absence

Parents and carers must provide a clear and specific reason whenever their child is absent from school. Please note that stating a child is simply "unwell" does not provide the sufficient information we have to ask for, and may result in the absence being unauthorised unless further details are provided. Thank you for your support with this.

To report an absence, please:

  • Call 01873 735373 and select Option 1

Working Together to Support Attendance

We believe that education is a partnership between home and school. We are committed to working with families to ensure that every pupil can attend school regularly and on time.

Parents and carers have a legal responsibility to ensure their child receives a full-time education. You can support your child by:

  • Promoting the importance of good attendance at home.
  • Contacting the school as soon as possible if your child cannot attend, explaining the reason for the absence.
  • Ensuring your child only misses school for unavoidable reasons or those agreed by the school, such as significant illness or an essential medical appointment.
  • Discussing any concerns that may affect attendance, punctuality or wellbeing with us at the earliest opportunity so that we can offer support.
